Music and Arts Focus

UCC Seneca Valley has a particular interest in music and the arts. With several musicians, singers, artists, and writers in our congregation we look to use our gifts and talents to connect with God, build community, speak to justice issues, and serve others. On any given Sunday you will probably hear our concert pianist Director of Music Ministry playing the piano or organ, but you may also hear African drums, a guitar, various brass instruments, a flute, a string quartet and more! During the fall, winter, and spring months you will also hear our Chancel Choir and possibly even our children and youth choirs.

On certain Sundays we don't simply read our sacred texts but we act out the stories we find in them. We love to dramatize our scripture and bring it to life. There are options for other performing arts to be a part of our worship as well. For instance in the past we have had liturgical dance be a part of our Sunday morning expereince.

If music or performing arts isn't your thing then maybe you would prefer visual art. With several artists in the congregation we celebrate how art can inspire us and bring us closer to God. We also love when art challenges us and speaks to the social justice issues of our day. We use art in our worship not only to decorate the sanctuary but also in slides shown during the sermon to help visual thinkers connect with the week's message and expand their understanding of God and God's people. For those of us who aren't professional artists we still take the gift of creativity seriously and use artistic expression in prayer stations, on retreats, and in community art projects.
