Stewardship and Giving

Rooted in Love - Stewardship Campaign October - November 2021

They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season. - Psalm 1:3a

Why Give to UCCSV?
When the world around us feels chaotic it's important to ground ourselves in what really matters. In this time and place we as a church community choose to be rooted in love. Consider all the ways in which our congregation roots your life: worship, friendship, service, justice, and prayer. Think too of the ways in which this community empowers us to express ourselves, to use our best gifts and talents to be a blessing to our neighbors, and also challenges us to live out our faith in our daily lives. We are watered and fed by God and community through the ministries of this congregation. When you give to UCCSV you are ensuring we can offer a wide, authentic welcome to all, especially to those who might not be welcomed elsewhere. The work of our church only happens because of the generous financial and volunteer support of our community. Because of you, our congregation shares God’s generous love with all. Because of your donations our work of sustaining and nurturing God's creation continues to make a difference in our neighborhood and beyond.

How Much Should I Give?
Your pledges of financial support provide over 90% of our budget as a congregation. Without your gifts to the annual pledge campaign we would not be able to engage in the programs, projects, ministry and worship experiences that define our community life. Deciding how much of our income to donate to charitable organizations can be difficult. Though we encourage moving towards a biblical tithe of giving 10% of one's income to charitable causes, including the church, we know that is often an aspiration rather than a reality. Instead consider if you can step up your giving even a small amount this year. Can you give an extra $10 or $20 a month? Or consider increasing your pledge by one percent or one-half a percent of your income this year. For example, if you earn $50,000 a year, could you increase your pledge by $500 or $250? (An increase of $42 or $21 per month). If you have not pledged in the past, consider if you're willing to make that commitment so that the church can know how much income to anticipate in 2022.

We are a little church with big ideas. Imagine how much more ministry we could do together with even a small increase in income! What additional offerings of art or music might we be able to make to the community? What organizations could we partner with to serve others? We could bolster our ministry to children and youth and expand our online outreach. We could rely less on rental income and offer more building space to area non-profits. We could be more effective advocates for justice and peace and work towards becoming an even greener church. As we grow in generosity let's imagine how God might use our church to continue to transform us and the world around us.

We hope that as you decide what to give to our church in 2022 you consider how this congregation has sustained and grounded you this past year. Above all know that your pledges and gifts to our congregation help strengthen who we are and what we can do together. Because of you, our church helps to root all things in God's love.
